Measurement and Sorting Exhibit

Educational Focus Areas

Measurement and Conservation

Description

Modular exhibit with two components, one focusing on measurement and the other on conservation for a target age range of 0-10 years.
Younger children can learn about conservation of matter, while older children will have an introduction to fractions. Some goals are as follows:

  1. Stuff doesn’t disappear when you divide it.
  2. The same amount of stuff might be held in containers of different shapes.
  3. Something that has been divided may have more pieces, but the amount of matter is the same.
  4. A part/fraction of something is less than a whole.
  5. As something is divided more and more times, the pieces/amounts get smaller and smaller.
