Teaching Artist Workshops

December 11, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Teaching takes many different forms, but at the heart of it is always the student. In this professional learning series, we aspire to center equity, empathy, and creativity so we may all grow as artists, educators and humans, led by Lisa Leibering.

Interactive 9-session workshop program at the Museum of Play
Saturday mornings, 9 - 12 pm
$10 per person
Breakfast included for all participants
Space is limited; Advance registration required
Register HERE!

Over 9 sessions, we will engage with a wide range of performing and visual arts as we discuss, question, and play with educational concepts and current teaching practices.
This series is for anyone who would like to experiment with how they might expand their teaching skills through the arts, regardless of their education or skill set.
Lisa Leibering will co-facilitate all workshops along with a specialized Teaching Artist chosen for their expertise in selected content areas.

It’s All About Perspective
Teaching artists: Randall Coleman and Lisa Leibering

We could all benefit from a shift in our perspective from time to time, so in this session we will consider how photography and poetry might be utilized to do just that! We will play around with poetry, both reading and writing, explore how we might use texts as an inspiration for photography, and engage with simple digital photo editing techniques. Participants will also leave with creative writing prompts, sample lesson plans, assessment tools, and instructions for using the digital editing tool Snapseed (free app). Participants must bring their own phone or tablet for taking photographs with Snapseed already installed.

I Would DYE for You

The unknown can be scary, but when we accept uncertainty and don’t fear failure, we can help to build our resiliency for the future. In this session, we will have some unpredictable fun fabric dyeing and say yes to creative drama. We might get messy, we might say something unexpected and we might step out of our comfort zones, at least a little bit. In addition to creating a unique hand dyed silk scarf, participants will also leave with instructions for numerous creative drama games, sample lesson plans, assessment tools, and resource lists.

Don’t be afraid of the dark, as you discover how to use shadow puppetry and soundscapes to create rigorous, project-based learning modules that provoke deep learning, positive social emotional growth, and artistic innovation. We will write scripts, engineer puppets, create sound effects, & put it all together in a performance. In addition to hands on experience with shadow puppetry and soundscapes, participants will also receive an arts-based framework for PBL, sample lesson plans, resource lists, assessment tools, and plans for building their own shadow screen.
